Framework #15

Why does it matter?

  • Low sales don't rule a product out

Add-to-cart and wishlist activity signal interest even when customers don't complete a purchase.

  • A visible conversion barrier

High Add to Cart with low Purchase Quantity suggests checking prices, delivery or variant availability.

  • A reason to adjust campaigns

Interest without purchases may justify remarketing, new messaging, a promotion or a budget increase after reviewing the offer.

How to diagnose the problem?

Compare product interest with actual purchases.

  1. 1

In Data Octopus, open Models → Products and review Add to Cart and Purchase Quantity.

  2. 2

Filter for products with above-average Add to Cart and below-average Purchase Quantity.

  3. 3

If the group has at least several dozen products, consider a separate campaign or look into conversion barriers.

Action strategy

  • AActivate High Intent - Low Purchase

Save the “High Intent - Low Purchase” segment to a custom label. Prepare a Demand Gen or Display remarketing campaign for users who added a product to cart but didn't buy it.

  • BRemove the barrier before adding cost

Compare competitor prices and check delivery costs and times, sizes and variants. Consider a temporary promotion for a pricing barrier, or more performance budget when pricing is competitive.

KPI

What to measure?

  • Add to Cart / Purchase

Compare the ratio across periods and check whether it moves towards 1:1.

  • Product conversions

Monitor purchase growth for products in the segment.

  • Cart abandonment

    Check whether cart abandonment drops.

  • Remarketing ROAS

Evaluate ROAS in the ad accounts for campaigns built on the selected products.

Don't exclude products only because sales are low. Combine interest signals with a look at purchase barriers, launch relevant remarketing and compare add-to-cart to purchase ratios over time.

Frequently asked questions

Does a high number of add-to-carts indicate sales potential?

It may reveal interest not yet reflected in purchases. The Data Octopus framework finds these products by comparing Add to Cart with Purchase Quantity.

How do you select High Intent - Low Purchase products?

In Data Octopus, select products with above-average Add to Cart and below-average Purchase Quantity. Save the segment as High Intent - Low Purchase in a custom label.

Does wishlist activity replace Add to Cart analysis?

Wishlist is an extra interest signal, but the diagnosis relies on Add to Cart and Purchase Quantity. The Data Octopus framework sets no separate wishlist threshold.

Do abandoned carts always need a price cut?

No, delivery costs, waiting times or missing variants can also cause abandonment. The Data Octopus framework recommends a promotion when the analysis points to a pricing barrier.
